Homeowner Tip: Water your Foundation!

When you are in a drought situation, do not forget this maintenance item for your home.  

If you walk around the perimeter of your house and you see a large separation in the dirt and the concrete foundation, then you might be setting yourself up for a major problem.  

If you have a sprinkler system, it is important not only to water your yard so your grass doesn’t die, but water your yard and the landscaping around it so you can prevent [this separation]. You want to water your house! And if you don’t have a sprinkler system, go to your local hardware store and get some of those black soaker hoses and surround the perimeter of your house the best that you can and run it every once in awhile.  

When I help clients buy homes, I love going on the foundation inspections because a lot of the foundation guys that come out will tell you, “Ehh, there’s something wrong with it, but water it and watch it.”  

So water it and watch your foundation. Take care of your home.
